Hints and tips
Due to the effect of the medication, some people can worry when taking Plenvu® that something is wrong.
Plenvu® is a laxative, which means it will cause you to have frequent diarrhoea (liquid bowel movements), this makes sure your bowel is clean and ready for your procedure.
It also has a strong flavour that some people do not like. It is quite common to feel nauseous while drinking it, but this usually settles once each dose is completed.
Hints and tips
-
Once dissolved, (this may take up to 8 minutes) the solution can be covered and refrigerated
-
Sip the solution very slowly over 60 minutes
-
Try using a straw or sports bottle
-
Alternate between the Plenvu® solution and a minimum of 500ml of clear fluid
-
Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of clear fluid (until 2 hours before your procedure)
For more information on what to do before your procedure, see our Useful information about Plenvu® page.
After taking your Plenvu® doses
-
Your first bowel movement will likely happen 1 to 2 hours after your first dose of Plenvu®. Make sure you are near a toilet and consider using a cream to act as a barrier for your bottom and prevent soreness (e.g. petroleum jelly)
-
Alcohol-free wet wipes offer a more soothing alternative to toilet paper after each bowel movement. Try refrigerating for an additional cooling effect
-
Allow enough time to travel to the hospital for your procedure
